Who’s up for Hamlet?

Hamlet: 5 Scenes by Nino Vichan

I was delighted to have found the Secondlife art installation Hamlet: 5 Scenes by Nino Vichan. Jump down the hole in the floor and you end up in a room with a table in the center. The table top is loaded with writing on parchment, books and scrolls and slowly, you begin to understand you are now in Shakespeare’s Study. The five chairs that surround table are particularly intriguing, it’s as though you’ve stepped into the room just as something important is about to happen, and it does! As you sit in a chair, an action is triggered and suddenly you are transported into Shakespeare’s mind as he is writing a scene from Hamlet! Each chair offers a different mind’s eye view. You travel through fantasy with Shakespeare as the story unfolds. I’ve included the artists description of the scenes here, but there is also a notecard given if you remember to click on the Hamlet sign.

The first scene is Ghost: One night, at Elsinore Castle in Denmark, two guards see a ghost. The next night, Horatio stays to watch with the guards. The ghost appears again. It is wearing the same cloak as the old king. Horatio comes to tell Hamlet about the ghost. Hamlet sees the ghost of his father. The next chair/scene is: To Be. Ophelia is in love with Hamlet. One day, while she is sewing, Hamlet comes to her room. Hamlet is thinking deeply. He wants to escape from his problems by committing suicide. His mind is full of questions. – Hamlet (thinking): To be, or not to be? The third chair: Murder It is the middle of the night, the time for witches and ghosts. Hamlet goes to see his mother in her bedroom. He does not know that someone is hiding behind the curtain and listening to everything. The Queen is afraid of Hamlet and she begins to scream. Polonius, the spy behind the curtain shouts for help. Hamlet turns around quickly and, without thinking, kills the listener.”

And the fourth chair: Ophelia Gertrude: I have bad news, Laertes. Ophelia is dead. She wanted to put flowers on the willow tree. While she was climbing, she slipped and fell into the river. She floated there, singing. Then she drowned. Lastly the fifth chair: Graveyard Hamlet meets Horatio in the graveyard. They see a gravedigger. He is preparing a new grave and he has uncovered some old bones. Hamlet begins to talk about a court jester that he used to know named Yorick. “Alas poor Yorick, I knew him

The artist does an exceptional interpretation of what Shakespeare may have been feeling visually and in my humble opinion it’s worth visiting to experience both the minds of Shakespeare and Nino Vichan.

Afterwards, there are also a series of galleries interconnected from Hamlet: 5 Scenes, and they are pleasant exploring as well. Once you’re done viewing the scenes of Hamlet you can teleport to the main gallery that includes a series of three other galleries, Amphis, Bamboo Barne’s Koca Gallery, Plum-Beat, for much more. You’ll see paintings like Venetian shadows and Attentione and  (See Photos Below) with her extensive accomplishments in Secondlife and beyond, (this SL artist is the host of Hamlet: 5 Scenes) she is an accomplished artist in her own right. Which means this gallery is a must see, I’ve provided links below. Happy art hunting!
